More than half of the members of the Association of Black Judges of Michigan (ABJM) gathered in Idlewild during a recent July weekend for its Inaugural Retreat. The theme of the retreat was “RESET: Restoration, Education, Service and Everyone Together.”
“The retreat was an opportunity to come together as black judges and reset ourselves and contribute to the restoration and education of Historic Idlewild,” said Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant who serves as president of ABJM.
The retreat’s educational sessions included topics on judicial security, judicial ethics in a changing court environment, and emotional intelligence as a foundation to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
There was also a judicial wellness activity where attendees participated in Tai Chi.
The retreat ended with a worship service at the First Baptist Church of Idlewild.
The Association of Black Judges of Michigan was founded in 1979.
