Attorney license renewal now open for 2022-23

All attorneys in the state of Michigan are required to annually renew their license and complete mandatory regulation disclosures.?

The new license year begins on Oct. 1 and ends on Sept.?30, 2023. 

Notices are being emailed to all licensed attorneys; renewals can be completed at e.michbar.org.

License renewal fees  are set at $415 for active attorneys in the state. 

The State Bar administers the license renewal process and distributes the funds as directed by the state Supreme Court. 

Fees fund the State Bar of Michigan, the Attorney Discipline System, and the Client Protection Fund. Voluntary contributions and section memberships can add additional fees.

State’s chief justice leaving to lead arbirtation group

LANSING (AP) — The chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court is leaving to become president of an international provider of dispute-resolution services.

Bridget McCormack’s hiring was announced thi week by the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution, a day after she said she would resign from the court later this year.

Kimberly Wiehl, leader of the group’s governing board, said the organization was looking for someone who has “outstanding business acumen” and is committed to expanding access to resolving disputes outside court.

“At a time when so much is changing in the legal profession, the AAA-IDCR’s mission and vision are more important than ever,” McCormack said in a written statement.

She will become president and chief executive in February.

McCormack, 56, has been on the state Supreme Court for nearly 10 years, including four as chief justice.
