MAPCR to host fundraiser Comedy Night Oct. 15

The Michigan Association of Professional Court Reporters (MAPCR) is hosting a fundraiser comedy night, 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at Block Brewing Company, 1140 S. Michigan, upper level, Howell, featuring stand-up comedian Billy Ray Bauer.

Bauer has performed in 40 states and in Canada at comedy clubs, casinos and corporate functions for many major companies including General Motors and MicroSoft. A repeat guest on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom radio show, and on Dick Purtan’s morning radio show in Detroit, he has appeared on Fox TV and Canadian TV's “Just for Laughs”, and was voted best local comedian by Hour Detroit magazine in 2017.

There will be a 50/50 cash raffle, a pick a prize raffle and a costume contest with a prize for the winner.

Applications being accepted for Court of Appeals vacancy

Applications are now being accepted for a seat on the Michigan Court of Appeals, 4th District, to replace vacating Judge Amy Ronayne Krause (effective December 13, 2022).

To be considered for this positions, applicants must be a State Bar of Michigan member who meets the legal qualifications for this office. Applicants should be aware that to be appointed they must reside within the judicial district.

For this vacancy, the Governor’s Office is requesting the following additional supplemental materials:

1. Provide three briefs and/or opinions that reflect the strength of your legal analysis and writing ability.  If possible, at least one should involve a question of constitutional law, and at least one should be an opinion or brief related to a dispositive motion or an appeal.

2. Provide a list of at least 5 opposing counsels in recent cases, or if you currently serve on the bench, 5 attorneys that have recently appeared before you. Please include their name, p number, phone number, and the date of your most recent case-related interaction.

Judicial appointment questionnaire, writing samples, resume, and supplemental documents must be submitted using the online portal at www.michigan.gov/ appointments and received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21.

Additional letters of recommendation can still be submitted after the initial submission to judicialappointments@michigan.gov.
