SBM Environmental Law Section plans annual meeting
The Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct its annual program and meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Dykema, 201 Townsend, Suite 900, in Lansing.
The program will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. featuring speaker Sarah Grace, project manager at Environmental Council of the States (ECOS). Grace is responsible for coordinating PFAS initiatives with all 50 states.
The annual meeting will follow and will also be available online. A happy hour will close the day from 5 to 7 p.m. at Midtown Brewing Co. in Lansing.

CDAM webinar looks at appealing bail decisions
The Criminal Defense Association of Michigan will present a webinar on “Appealing Bail Decisions” Thursday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon via Zoom.
Speaking at the webinar will be Phil Mayor who joined the ACLU in 2019. He will be discussing a variety of issues, including criminal legal reform, poverty, racial justice, prison/prisoners’ rights, free speech, and immigrants’ rights.
Mayor earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, and has a bachelor’s degree from Rice University in Philosophy and Economics.
Prior to joining the ACLU of Michigan, Mayor was an assistant general counsel at the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), in Detroit.
Prior to that he served as an appellate litigator at the U.S. Department of Labor.

MDTC schedules Meet the Judges event
Justices of the Michigan Supreme Court, and the judges of the state Court of Appeals, county circuit courts, county district courts, U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts, Tribal Appellate Court justices, and Tribal Court judges are invited to attend the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel’s Meet the Judges event on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Detroit Golf Club, 17911 Hamilton Road in Detroit.
Hors d’oeuvres will be served and beverages will be provided.
The event is free to all judicial attendees, $85 for members (member rates apply to staff of MDTC members), and $135 for non-members which includes membership fee.
Capacity is limited so early registration is encouraged.
