What better way is there for a student to connect with their professors outside of the classroom than having a nice dinner and conversation.
Phi Alpha Delta hosted a “Dinner with a Professor” auction for students to bid on professors to share a meal with them. Many professors agreed to take two to six students to a free dinner. The way to win this dinner is by joining in with some of your friends and bidding on the professor(s).
Claire Moore, Justice (President) of Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity, was the lead organizer of this event.
“We started this event as a way for students to get to know their professor other than being taught by them,” said Moore. “We thought it would be a great way to set up that type of communication between them as well as raise money to donate to the women’s center.”
All proceeds will be donated to the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing and students enjoy the act of giving back to the community.
“I think it’s really important to give back when you can,” said Kennedy Potts. “Especially when it is a great event put on by an amazing group, you just have to show up.”
As a law student, making connection with instructors can be beneficial in many aspects and is something that can be tough to do outside of the classroom due to schedule conflicts.
“This is an opportunity to meet a professor on less of an academic level and more on personal level,” said Michael Kostuch. “This is interesting for me since I am a third-year and I built a relationship with them in the classroom, so it’s a good time to get to know them more personally.”
Professors who were bid on will either take students out to dinner at a nice restaurant in the Lansing area or have selected the option to cook a meal at their homes.
Phi Alpha Delta was able to raise $750 at the end of the auction with continuous donations being sent in from students, staff, and faculty.
