The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Violence Against Women Project will present the webinar “A DNA Primer in Sexual Assault and IPV Cases” on Wednesday, November 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. via Zoom.
This webinar will provide some of the foundational information new prosecutors (or prosecutors new to handling cases with DNA evidence) need to know to understand and use their evidence effectively in sexual assault and intimate partner violence cases.
Tanya Abdelnour, director of the PAAM Violence Against Women’s project, will discuss forensic evidence typically associated with SA/IPV cases and the processing methods currently employed by the state police crime laboratory when evidence is submitted for DNA testing. There will be an overview of the basic terminology that prosecutors should be familiar with along with an overview of the data and reports generated in the processing of evidence for DNA. This webinar is open to prosecutors, LE and systems-based advocates.
This training satisfies 2 hours of continuing legal education for purposes of PAAM’s Best Practices Recommendations.
To register for the online program, visit https://michiganprosecutor.org and click on “training.” Registrants will receive an email 24-48 hours before the training from Training Coordinator Alexandra McGowan containing the Zoom link allowing them to join this webinar. Any questions about this process can be directed to Alexandra McGowan at mcgowana1@michigan. gov.
