Associations gather for ‘Bar Night Out’ in Birmingham

The Oakland County Bar Association will host “Bar Night Out at The Morrie” on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This will be a unique joint membership mixer in collaboration with the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan and Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan. Attendees can mix and mingle with members of the OCBA, JBAM and HBAM while enjoying a festive atmosphere, appetizers and a cash bar. The event is free for members of these three associations. Non-members can attend for $25.

Space is limited so early registration is encouraged. To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.” The Morrie-Birmingham is located at 260 N. Old Woodward Ave. in Birmingham.

ALA?hosts Virtual Movie Night Jan. 18

The Association of Legal Administrators, Metropolitan Detroit Chapter, will host a Virtual Movie Night on Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 6 to a p.m. 

From the comforts of home, participants can join for an Amazon Prime documentary film that promises to be an informative, interesting and eye-opening experience to broaden viewers’ perspective on DEI topics. “Watch Party” baskets will be mailed in advance to each participant.

ALA members and business partners can attend the online event for free. Non-members can purchase guest tickets for $20.

Wayne Law to present Rosen Constitutional Law Lecture Jan. 18

Wayne State University Law School will present the Paul A. Rosen Constitutional Law Lecture on Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. in-person in Partrich Auditorium in Detroit and online via Zoom.

Michael Waldman, president of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, will be speaking. Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that focuses on improving systems of democracy and justice. The Brennan Center is a leading national voice on voting rights, money in politics, criminal justice reform, and constitutional law. Waldman, a constitutional lawyer and writer who is an expert on the presidency and American democracy, has led the Center since 2005.
