Attorneys take stock of labor and employment law updates for 2023 as law firm continues educational series

Presented by management side labor and employment law firm Nemeth Bonnette Brouwer PC (formerly Nemeth Law, P.C.), Raising the Bar is making its in-person return on Wednesday, February 1, with a 2023 Labor and Employment Law Update at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy. Raising the Bar, the firm’s long-running signature educational series, aims to increase employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law and offer guidance on what employers should be doing now to stay ahead of the curve.

According to Nemeth Bonnette Brouwer partner Terry Bonnette, changes can be expected in 2023 on both the state and federal levels, and with those changes, employers may be facing some uncertainty.

“The beginning of a new year provides the perfect opportunity to take stock of where we’ve been, as well as where we’re going,” Bonnette said. “There is much to discuss as Michigan employers continue to face ambiguity with respect to their obligations under the controversial Paid Medical Leave Act and minimum wage law. Meanwhile, our State Supreme Court has expanded the protections of the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination and harassment in the workplace based on sexual orientation. On the federal level, proposed regulatory changes will redefine wage and hour obligations, deliver new direction on the use of AI in employment settings, and reignite decades-old labor disputes.”

Raising the Bar topics that will be addressed in this session include:

• Michigan’s Paid Medical Leave Act and Minimum Wage Update
• Right-to Work on the chopping block. What’s next for union employers?
• Vestiges of the Pandemic – Employee Surveillance and Mask/Vaccine Mandate Litigation
• Employment Fallout of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding abortion
• The Dramatic Increase in Union Activity and NLRB Activism
• EEO, DOL, and NLRB compliance updates

Raising the Bar will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the MSU Management Education Center, 811 West Square Lake Road, Troy, 48098. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The program will run from 9 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. with one 15-minute break.

The cost of the event is $75 per person and pre-registration is requested. To register, e-mail Melody Huffer at mhuffer@ nemethlawpc.com or contact Melody at (313) 567-5921.
