As part of its Community Conversations virtual event series, WMU-Cooley Law School will present "MLK Day Remembrance with Robyn McCoy" online Tuesday, Jan. 17, noon to 1 p.m.
McCoy is a partner with McCoy & Associates PLLC in Ann Arbor and specializes in Criminal Defense, Family Law, Educational Advocacy, Estate Planning, Probate, Wrongful Death and Personal Injury. She has worked as a deputy defender for the Legal Aid Defender Association in Detroit and as a Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem defense attorney and educational advocate at the Michigan Children's Law Center in Detroit.
McCoy is president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, past president and board member at large of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association, vice chair for Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus, and a member of the Wolverine Bar Association, the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar, the National Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Washtenaw County Bar Association.
McCoy is a lecturer at Eastern Michigan University teaching a class on the Law and the African American Experience and has planned, facilitated and organized numerous presentations on "What To Do When Stopped by the Police," "Expungements-How to Set Aside Your Criminal Conviction," "Pathways to Law School," and "How to Navigate the Public School System."
McCoy graduated from the University of Chicago in 1996 and obtained her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000. During her senior year of college, she was mentored by Michelle Obama.
