Bieda to fill District Court seat; Rancilio leads Family Court

Steven Bieda, chair of the Michigan Tax Tribunal, has been appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to fill a vacancy on the 37th District Court in Warren and Center Line.

Bieda, who served earlier in the Michigan Senate and the state House, fills the seat vacated last April by Judge Matthew Sabaugh who was named by Whitmer to serve on Macomb County Circuit Court.

Prior to his job as tax tribunal chair, Bieda worked at the Michigan Department of Treasury as director of legislative affairs.

The appointment takes effect Feb. 1 and expires Jan. 1, 2025.

Visiting judges have filled in since Sabaugh left the district court seat.

Meanwhile, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Rachel Rancilio has been named presiding judge of the county’s Family Court.

Chief Judge James Biernat announced the appointment Jan. 2.

Rancilio was elected to the bench in November 2016. Prior to her election, she was in private practice, specializing in domestic, civil and criminal litigation.
