MSU Law appoints new senior director of development

Jacqueline M. Kontry, an attorney and long-time development professional, is appointed Senior Director of Development for Michigan State University College of Law, effective Jan. 30, 2023.

In this position, Kontry will develop and implement a campaign strategy for the upcoming MSU campaign, focusing on engaging diverse alumni and securing major gifts for the law college’s strategic priorities. She will report to MSU Law Dean Linda Sheryl Greene and University Advancement. Under its ten-year DEI Strategic Plan, MSU College of Law is poised to reach a higher level of sustained and inclusive excellence to become the preeminent law school in Michigan serving diverse communities in Michigan and beyond.

“Jacqueline brings impressive experience in advancement and the legal profession to MSU Law,” said Dean Greene. “Her leadership in building donor engagement will be invaluable to our strategic plan. She will play a critical role in helping the College of Law fulfill its commitment to educate and serve diverse communities.”

Kontry comes to MSU from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law where she served as Associate Director of Development since 2019; and Assistant Director of Individual Giving from 2016 to 2019.

“We are excited to welcome Jacqueline to the MSU Advancement team,” said Kim Tobin, Vice President, University Advancement. “She has an impressive track record managing large portfolios of major donors and prospects.”

Prior to her development work, Kontry was a practicing attorney in Farmington Hills, Mich., at Trott Law, P.C., where she represented and advised mortgage servicers and lenders.

Kontry, a member of the state bars of Michigan and Illinois, received her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and her B.A. in English from the University of Michigan.

“I am honored to join the advancement teams at MSU College of Law and the University,” said Kontry. “Aligning donors’ intentions with the goals of the law school is very gratifying work. I’m looking forward to helping MSU Law reach its goals and deliver its DEI Strategic Plan.”

Kontry is an active supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association, previously serving as co-chair of the volunteer committee of the Association’s Detroit Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
