For 35 years, Detroiters have gathered during the month of February at the request of federal Judge Damon J. Keith to acknowledge the contributions of African Americans to this nation’s rich history.
This year’s 35th Annual Soul Food Luncheon is being held in person for the first time since Keith’s passing in 2019 and the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 35th Annual Damon J. Keith Soul Food Luncheon is scheduled today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. It is presented by the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at Wayne State University Law School and the family of Keith Clerks.
“For more than three decades the Damon J. Keith Soul Food Luncheon has been the most important Black History Month event in Detroit. We are excited to continue this tradition and pay tribute to Judge Keith's life and legacy,” Peter J. Hammer, director of the Damon J. Keith Center.
