State Bar accepting nominations for Rep Assembly awards

Nominations are now being accepted for two State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly awards honoring attorneys for their outstanding achievements.

The Michael Franck Award pays tribute to a Michigan attorney for contributing to improving the legal profession.

The Unsung Hero Award honors a Michigan attorney who exhibits the highest standards of practice and commitment to the benefit of others. Both awards are given annually.

Nomination forms are available online at www.michbar.org/generalinfo/awards and are due by Saturday, March 18.

Nominees for the awards must be State Bar of Michigan members in good standing. The honors can be for contributions made in the past year or a cumulative effort over several years.


Conversations and boundaries discussed at WLAM program

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will conduct its monthly WLAMom online discussion Monday, March 6, beginning at 8 p.m. via Zoom.

The program will focus on crucial conversations and boundaries.

ACC-MI program examines in-house pro bono initiatives

The Association of Corporate Counsel-Michigan Chapter (ACC-MI) will present “Making a Difference: Creating or Enhancing Your In-House Pro Bono Programs” sponsored by Miller Canfield on Thursday, March 9, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

This program will be offered online and in person at the Detroit offices of Miller Canfield, 150 W. Jefferson, Ste. 2500.

Countless pro bono opportunities benefit from the unique skills of in-house counsel. However, sometimes finding the right fit can seem daunting. Addressing this issue will be corporate and law firm experts on establishing and managing an effective and successful in-house pro bono program.

Speakers will include:

• Jennifer Lawson, a program manager at the DTE Energy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DTE Energy.

• Kimberly Ray, chair of the pro bono committee at Ford Motor Co.

• Wendy Richardson, a commercial litigator who has worked on numerous multimillion-dollar class actions and other complex matters.
