Honoring social justice work

The Federal Bar Association (FBA), Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, conducted the 2023 Wade Hampton McCree Jr. Award for the Advancement of Social Justice Luncheon this month at the Atheneum in Detroit. This year’s award honored Amanda Alexander (second from right), founder and executive director of the Detroit Justice Center, a non-profit law firm working alongside communities to create economic opportunities, transform the justice system and promote equitable and just cities. The keynote speaker for the event was Detroit Red Wings announcer Ken Daniels (center), who is also co-founder and trustee of the Jamie Daniels Foundation which grants funds to support community partners that provide programs, resources and solutions that address the ongoing drug epidemic in the country. Among those welcoming the distinguished guests to the luncheon were (left to right) U.S. District Court Judge Sean Cox, Mike Carter of the Federal Defender’s Office and FBA President Jennifer Newby.
