‘Meet the Judges’ event hosted by ADTC

The Association of Defense Trial Counsel will host a “Meet the Judges” event Tuesday, March 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Rochester Mills Beer Company in Rochester.

Cost to attend is $20 for ADTC members and $25 for non-members.  

Food and two drink tickets will be provided. Judges can attend for free and each judge will receive a growler to take home.

Webinar looks into gender-inclusive language for courts

The National Center for State Courts will present a webinar on “Gender-Inclusive Language for Courts” Wednesday, March 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. via Zoom.

How can courts be thoughtful in their approach to using gender-inclusive language in their communications, forms, and proceedings?

This webinar is an opportunity to learn about gender-inclusive language, organizers say, and how courts can use it in their communications, forms, and proceedings.

Speaking at the webinar will be Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Gonzalez (he/him);     August Hieber (they/them), senior program manager, Administrative Office, Illinois Courts; and moderator Andy Wirkus (he/him), court management consultant, NCSC.

Statehouse journalists featured speakers at Levin Center webinar

The Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy’s new State Oversight Academy will host statehouse journalists to discuss the role of the media in ensuring government transparency and accountability through oversight and how media attention affects the behavior of politicians who are supposed to be conducting or cooperating with oversight.

The webinar “The Eyes of the People: How Statehouse Journalism Affects Legislative Behavior” will be presented Thursday, March 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Speaking at the webinar will be panelists Amelia Knisely, freelance journalist, West Virginia; Camryn Sanchez, Arizona Capitol Times; and Jonathan Oosting, Bridge Michigan; with moderator Adam Zelizer, assistant professor, Harris School of Public Policy - University of Chicago.
