New data reveals that Washington D.C is the US district with the most law school applicants per 100,000 people.
The research, conducted by healthcare law firm federal-lawyer.com analyzed the number of law school applicants over the past 12 months from each U.S. state and D.C per 100,000 people.
Washington D.C takes the top spot as the US area with the most law applicants across since the start of 2022. Per 100,000 people in this area, there were 129.4 applicants.
Coming in second is New York, which has 29.15 law applicants per 100,000 people.
Massachusetts is the state showing the third highest interest taking the first step to becoming a lawyer with 25.47 applicants per 100,000 people.
New Jersey comes in fourth for residents’ interest in becoming a lawyer at 25.14 applications per 100,000 people in the state.
In fifth place in the ranking is Connecticut that on average sees 23.99 applications per 100,000 people.
Per 100,000 people in the state of Utah there are 22.65 law school applications, making it the area with the sixth highest interest in residents wanting to become lawyers.
Maryland places seventh with 21.55 law school applicants per 100,000 people.
In eighth position in the ranking is Florida with 21.33 law school applications per 100,000 people.
In Virginia, per 100,000 people there are 21.23 applications.
Texas comes in tenth position with 19.71 law school applications per 100,000 people in the state.

However, every industry continues to require legal experts and therefore job opportunities will always be available in this field for the future generation.
“This research highlights where the next generation of lawyers will be coming from with Washington D.C. having four times more applicants per 100,000 people than New York.
“Though this data reveals which states have the most residents actively applying for law school, there are many factors that these future lawyers should take into consideration when choosing which school is right for them. They may look at the tuition costs, the percentage of successful graduates, the average salary for a lawyer in that state. Location is vital for consideration as this also affections your internship choices, professional networks and post graduate job prospects. “
