Bar associations taking part in expungement fair
The City of Southfield and Southfield Alumnae Chapter (SAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. in partnership with Lakeshore Legal Aid (LLA), Southfield Police, Wolverine Bar Association, and D. Augustus Straker Bar Association will host an Expungement Clinic & Resource Fair on Saturday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fair will provide the opportunity for individuals seeking to clear eligible criminal convictions from their records as well as additional community resources, skillset information, and other assistance. To receive assistance, individuals must register in advance by Thursday, March 23 at https://tinyurl.com/Southfield-Expunge ment-Clinic. Eligible applicants will be contacted with an appointment time and location.
Expungements are for State of Michigan convictions only, including up to three felonies, two convictions for assaultive crimes, one drinking and driving offense, and unlimited misdemeanors. No capital offenses and most criminal sexual conduct convictions cannot be expunged.
“Everyone deserves an opportunity for a fresh start at a new life,” commented Oakland County 46th District Court Chief Judge Shelia Johnson.

Zenell Brown featured at WBA Table for Eight
The Women's Bar Association, Oakland County region of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, will host its annual Table for Eight dinner event featuring attorney Zenell B. Brown on Monday, April 3, beginning at 6 p.m. at Sedona Taphouse, 198 East Big Beaver Road in Troy.
Brown has worn many hats during her legal career. She began as a paralegal and currently serves as the Wayne County Circuit Court administrator. Brown is a current faculty member of the Institute of Court Management, the Michigan Judicial Institute, and the Michigan Women Lawyers’ Leadership Academy, focusing on the topics of strategic thinking and planning, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.
For her work in justice administration, diversity, and leadership, Brown has received numerous awards including the ABA Robert Yegge Award, the National Association for Court Management Linda Perkins Award, and the National Sojourner Truth Award from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women Inc. in 2021.
