State Oversight Academy webinar to examine prison operations April 26

The Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy’s new State Oversight Academy (SOA) will present the webinar “Inside-Out: Bringing Facts on Prison Operations from Behind Bars to State Legislators” Wednesday, April 26, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom.

How do legislators equip themselves with facts on prison operations for decision-making? When there is a crisis in corrections officer employment, or a scandal in the news, where do legislators get the information they need to make necessary response decisions? The SOA will present a conversation on correctional institutions oversight featuring panelists from state governments across the country.

To register for the free webinar, visit https://levin-center.org.  Anyone with questions may email the Levin Center at Wayne Law at levincenter@wayne.edu.

Foundation hosting 2023 Signature Event May 4

The Oakland County Bar Foundation (OCBF) will host its 2023 Signature Event Thursday, May 4, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Orchard Lake Country Club, 5000 West Shore Dr. in West Bloomfield.

The OCBF grants funds throughout the year to many worthy non-profit organizations in order to meet its mission of ensuring access to justice and an understanding of law in our community. This mission couldn’t be fulfilled without this event and the sponsors who support the foundation.

The OCBF Signature Event is the only fundraising event for the foundation. The excellent food, the beautiful lakeside location and the company of colleagues produce a wonderful networking event that, in return, benefits many worthy organizations.

Cost for this year’s event is $195 and tickets are limited.  To purchase tickets, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”

For the April meeting, the club will be discussing “The Lost Apothecary” by Sarah Penner.  This historical fiction novel takes place simultaneously in eighteenth-century London and present-day London. The two time periods collide as aspiring historian Caroline investigates centuries-old unsolved murders mysteriously related to an ancient apothecary.
