Firm to issue $2,500 diversity scholarships to law school students
Plunkett Cooney will select three diverse law school students who participate in its Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) essay program to receive $2,500 diversity scholarships.
“We are excited to launch this year’s scholarship program,” said Laurel McGiffert, the firm’s director of Diversity & Inclusion. “We are looking for diverse students who truly understand the importance of, and who are committed to, improving diversity and inclusion within the legal industry.”
The program is open to all diverse students currently enrolled in an accredited law school.
For purposes of the scholarship program, “diverse students” include, but are not limited to, applicants based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, LGBTQIA+ identity, disability and neurodivergence.
Participants have until June 23 to submit their essays

Michigan Creditors Bar schedules spring member dinner
The Michigan Creditors Bar Association will host its Spring Member Dinner Wednesday, May 10, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Troy.
The program will include the board of directors elections, a government affairs committee update, discussion on current legislative topics, along with time to network and catch up with colleagues. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.
Registration is $75 for members and $95 for non-members. There will be a cash bar.

Networking happy hour planned by ALA
The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators will host a networking happy hour on Wednesday, May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Corner Grill, Bar & Game Room in Ferndale.
Attendees will have the opportunity to play their favorite games from the board game library while networking with their Metro Detroit ALA colleagues.
ALA members and business partners can attend for free. Guests may attend for $35.
