The ABA Journal, the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association, has been racking up an impressive number of awards.
On May 11, the Journal was named the national Magazine of the Year by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (known for their "Azbee" awards). The honor was based on the Journal's "quality of writing, reporting and editing; value and usefulness to the reader; editorial organization; interaction with readers; and layout and design, in regard to the flow and style of individual issues."
In addition, Legal Affairs Writer Matt Reynolds won a National Gold Award for Feature Article for "America's Lost Children: Reckoning with the abusive legacy of Indian boarding schools"; Legal Affairs Writer Amanda Robert won a National Silver Award for Enterprise News story for "Psychedelic Rx: Legal battles aim to expand patients' access to psilocybin and other hallucinogens"; the staff won a National Silver Award for Group Profile for "2022 Legal Rebels: No Turning Back"; and Assistant Managing Editor Victor Li won National Bronze Award for Regular Department for "Business of Law."
In April, the Journal received three golds in the regional Azbees competition. Reynolds won a regional gold for his "Lost Children" story, Robert for her "Psychedelic Rx" coverage and Li for his "Business of Law" department.
The Journal also received three silver and six bronze awards in the regional competition.
In addition, at the Chicago Headline Club's Peter A. Lisagor Awards on May 12, Assistant Managing Editor Liane Jackson won the Best Column or Editorial from a Small Print/Online Publication award for her "Intersection" column, the most prestigious honor for Chicago-area journalists. Reynolds was a finalist for best feature for "Lost Children"and Robert was a finalist in the same category for "Psychedelic Rx."
"I am extremely proud of our staff for these well-deserved honors," said ABA Journal Editor & Publisher John O'Brien. "It is my privilege to work among such a dedicated, talented and hard-working group of people."
