The Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct its Summer Conference, titled “Reply Hazy Try Again' What's Next in Real Estate,” July 19-22 at Crystal Mountain resort in Thompsonville.
Uncertainty permeates today's real estate environment. Interest rate hikes, supply chain issues, and other disruptors create risks and opportunities in equal measure. When even the Magic Eight Ball cannot provide answers, practitioners who are well versed in both current development trends and the latest in distressed real estate law will be at a decided advantage.
Conference Co-Chairs Scott Lesser, of Miller Canfield in Troy, and Aileen Leipprandt, of Hilger Hammond in Grand Rapids, invite all real estate practitioners to meet their colleagues at Mission Point to exchange and explore creative solutions to modern real estate dilemmas and help you maintain an edge-no matter where the market goes.
On Thursday, July 20, after a legislative update from the RPLS lobbyist, the conference will begin with an expert panel discussion exploring how to reposition a distressed commercial asset by examining the Lakeside Mall project.
Thursday's and Friday's workshops will address workouts in the marijuana sector, renewable developments, three recent significant statutory and regulatory changes the Marketable Record Title Act, the Corporate Transparency Act, and the Michigan Uniform Assignment of Rents Act and land title standards. Friday will feature an update on recent Michigan court opinions impacting real estate. The program will also include ten interactive roundtable discussions on a variety of topics such as current land use and zoning issues, vacation rentals, Subchapter V bankruptcies, liquor licenses, and more.
No summer conference would be complete without a full array of recreational and social activities, including a welcoming cocktail reception on Wednesday, July 19. A cocktail reception is scheduled for Thursday evening, followed by the traditional RPLS dinner. The evening will end with family entertainment Glow Golf with glow-in-the dark golf balls, golf flagpoles, and neon glow sticks. Saturday morning will kick off with a special presentation by Kevin Bopp, CEO of Park Rite, who will discuss the shifting interactions between transportation and real estate. Afterward, another set of roundtables will conclude the conference.
