SBM section to review ‘303 Creative’ online

The State Bar of Michigan’s LGBTQ+ Section will conduct “303 Creative: In Review” online Wednesday, August 2, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The online program will feature a discussion of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in 303 Creative LLC v Elenis.  

Among those taking part in the discussion will be Jay Kaplan of ACLU?Michigan and Angie Martell, SBM LGBTQ+ Section chair.

Battle of the Bar softball game pits MDTC against MAJ

The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and Michigan Association of Justice will take to the field at the Corner Ballpark for the MDTC/MAJ Battle of the Bar softball game on Friday, August 11.  

The friendly sportsmanship competition raises funds for the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL). The game begins at 1 p.m. at the Corner Ballpark, 1680 Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

MDTC/MAJ members, non-member attorneys, judges, court staff, legal staff, law students, family and friends are invited to cheer on their favorite teams.

Association to host summer cookout

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Association of Black Law Alumni (ABLA) will host the 3rd Annual ABLA Summer Cookout on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Detroit Mercy Law alumni, current students, and friends of ABLA are invited for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and fun. Guests will enjoy tasty grilled summer fare, great conversations, musicand games.

The cookout will take place in the Student Parking Lot at Detroit Mercy Law, 651 East Jefferson in Detroit.

Female leaders of the State Bar featured at  WLAM online event

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will present “Remarkable Leaders: Women Presidents of the SBM — Pioneers & the Present” online Wednesday, Aug. 23, at noon via Zoom.

The online event will feature a panel discussion with women presidents of the State Bar of Michigan including Julia Donovan Darlow, Judge Victoria A. Roberts, and Dana Warnez.  Kristina Bilowus will moderate the discussion.
