Federal Bar plans Bench/Bar Golf Outing for August 10

The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will host its 2023 Bench/Bar Golf Outing on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Northville Hills Golf Club in Northville.

Participants can join the federal bench and bar in day of golf and socializing. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by golf with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.  

Golf costs $825 per foursome and $225 per single golfer which includes golf and an early dinner. The cost is $70 for those attending the dinner only.

‘Nuts and Bolts of an OWI Case’ discussed at PAAM event

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM) will present “Nuts and Bolts of an OWI Case” on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon in-person at the PAAM offices in Lansing, and online via Zoom.

This hybrid training will cover:

  • OWI Investigations
  • The Seven Drug Categories
  • OWI Defense Challenges

The program is designed for prosecutors, APAs, and traffic safety personnel.

There is no fee to attend this webinar, but attendees must register in advance. To register, visit https://michiganprosecutor.org and click on “training.”  Final confirmations will be emailed approximately 1 week prior to the seminar.

CDAM hosts webinar on legal writing for trial lawyers

The Criminal Defense Association of Michigan will present the webinar “Legal Writing For Trial Lawyers” on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m. to noon via Zoom.  

Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System (MAACS) Administrator Bradley Hall will lead the webinar.

Hall is a graduate of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law where he gained experience working at the Southern Center for Human Rights, Cook County Public Defender Office, and Center on Wrongful Convictions.

After a clerkship with U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds, Hall spent eight years as a staff attorney at the Federal Defender Office in Detroit.

Cost for the webinar is $30.
