Database searches explored during SADO webinar

The State Appellate Defender Office, the Criminal Defense Resource Center, and the West Michigan Regional Investigators Association will present a webinar on “Background Searches: Beyond the Database” Thursday, Sept. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Database searches are a great way to locate people and acquire unverified bits of background information.

In this training, attendees will learn how to verify that information in order to obtain evidence useful in court, as well as where to look for deeper background answers. A segment of the training will be devoted to looking into police misconducts through federal, state, and local court searches and other public records.

Speaking at the webinar will be Julianne Cuneo, chief investigator at SADO. Cuneo was the owner/operator of Sunshine Investigations for 30 years, specializing in death penalty and other state and federal capital cases, as well as plaintiffs’ personal injury work.

Cuneo began her career when voter registration information could only be found on paper at the local clerk’s office, and showed a mother’s maiden name and Social Security number.
