The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Conviction Integrity Clinic will present a panel discussion on wrongful convictions. “The Road to Exoneration: An Open Conversation with Judge and Exonerees” will take place Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Detroit Mercy Law Atrium in Detroit.
To kick off Wrongful Conviction Day, panelists will share their experiences and address issues that lead to a wrongful conviction, as well as discuss the work to further the mission in helping incarcerated individuals with innocence claims. Panelists will include exonerees Ken Nixon and Gilbert Poole, Wayne County Circuit Court Judges Mariam Bazzi and Kevin Cox, and moderator Valerie Newman, director, Wayne County Prosecutor Conviction Integrity Unit, and director, Detroit Mercy Law Conviction Integrity Clinic. A reception will follow the discussion.
