Story Trail Celebration at Bethlehem Park on October 7

Join your neighbors at Bethlehem Park and celebrate--through food, crafts, reading, and other activities--the changing of the Story Trail signs to Amanda Gorman's Change Sings.

The event is for all ages, and runs 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, October 7, organized by the Muskegon Heights Branch Library.

MMA offers ‘Oddities and Delights’

Oddities and Delights is an exploration of the fun, whimsical, and strange artworks in the Muskegon Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

Fantastical vehicles made from discarded parts, a chest freezer transformed into a cow, fabric skinned cats with visible wooden skeletons, a two-headed deer in bronze, and a cheeseburger meal with fries and a drink rendered in glass highlight some of the delightfully unusual artworks.

‘Scheherazade and More’ set November 3

The West Michigan Symphony Orchestra will present “Scheherazade and More.” 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 3, in the Frauenthal Center.

The evening of colorful, storytelling music evokes an assortment of sounds, fragrances and sensations, from new to familiar. Featuring Jennifer Higdon:  Blue Cathedral; Kinan Azmeh: Suite for Improviser and Orchestra; Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade; with Scott Speck conductor and Kinan Azmeh clarinet/composer.
