Justice on the Road: Michigan Supreme Court heads to Vehicle City for 28th Court Community Connections Program

As part of its “Court Community Connections” program, the Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral argument in Long Lake Twp v Todd Maxon, Supreme Court Case No. 164948, at Powers Catholic High School, 1505 W. Court St. in Flint, on Wednesday, October 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (argument will begin promptly at 10 a.m.). A debriefing session led by Supreme Court Chief Commissioner Daniel C. Brubaker and the attorneys for the parties will follow oral argument.

In addition to hearing oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, justices and staff travel to communities statewide as part of the “Court Community Connections” program, which the court started as a public education program aimed primarily at high school students. This will be the 28th time the court has traveled to hear a case at another location.

Along with Michigan Supreme Court justices and Genesee County judges, students from the following schools will be participating in the 28th “Court Community Connections” program:

• Atlantis Alternative High School

• Carman-Ainsworth High School

• Flushing High School

• Grand Blanc High School

• Hamady High School

• International Academy

• Michigan School for the Deaf

• Powers Catholic High School

• The New Standard Academy

• WAY Academy of Flint

Online streaming of oral arguments and other hearings will start shortly before hearings begin; audio will be muted until justices take their seats. Streaming will begin only while the court is in session and on the bench.
