Society schedules film premier of ‘A Light for Justice’

The Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will present the world film premier of “A Light for Justice” on Wednesday, November 1, at the Detroit Historial Museum, 5401 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.

The Historical Society film celebrates the history of the Detroit courthouse and showcases its restoration and future.

Filmmakers Scott Zuchlewski and Will Lawson , along with narrator Carmen Harlan, guide inside looks at the practices, personalities and trials with archival firm plus, insightful interviews with judges, attorneys and officials.

The film begins at 6:30 p.m. but there is a catered reception at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s Streets of Old Detroit, Grand Trunk Passenger Station.

Admission is free with Court Historical Society membership. Non-members and guests can attend for $25.

Attorneys present annual State of the Law Update

The Association of Corporate Counsel-Michigan Chapter (ACC-MI) will present the annual State of the Law Update “Top Trends & Issues to Anticipate Heading into 2024” sponsored by Foley & Lardner LLP on Thursday, November 9, from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at the Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit.

This program is designed for in-house counsel with a focus on the key legal issues, updates, and trends affecting Michigan-based organizations.

 Following an afternoon of learning, attendees join peers for a networking reception, including cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.  

Leading the program will be Foley &?Lardner Detroit partners Nicholas Ellis, Vanessa Miller and Jon Witt.

‘ELCRA 2023’ updates provided online by SBM section

The State Bar of Michigan’s LGBTQ+ Law Section and Labor & Employment Law Section will present “ELCRA 2023 - Updates & Challenges” online Friday, November 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

This multi-section lunch and learn will discuss the changes to LGBTQ+ and civil rights under ELCRA and religious exemption claims after 303 Creative LLC v Elenis.
