‘South to America’ focus of next ADR Section Book Club


The State Bar of Michigan’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section will conduct its Diversity & Inclusion Action Team Book Club online Tuesday, November 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The next read is “South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation,” by Imani Perry. It is the story of a Black woman and native Alabaman returning to the region she has always called home and considering it with fresh eyes.

OCBA New Lawyers Committee to host ‘Novemberfest’
 

The Oakland County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Committee will host its annual Novemberfest on Thursday, November 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pop’s for Italian, 280 W. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.

The New Lawyers Committee kicks off the new year in a fun way at this unique venue with great networking, delectable food, and a cash bar.

Tickets cost $55 for OCBA members; $40 for new lawyers  (+82500), admin assistants, paralegals, and students; and $60 for non-members. To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”  Anyone with questions may call Katie Tillinger at 248-334-3400.

 

‘Problem-Solving Courts’ virtual training offered
 

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Problem-Solving Courts (PSC) will conduct a “Fundamentals of Problem-Solving Courts” virtual program on Wednesday, December 6.

This collaborative training presented by SCAO and the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals (MATCP) will focus on the fundamentals of a successful problem-solving court. This training is ideal for new problem-solving court teams and team members, is recommended for more-experienced team members who want a refresher, and is required for judges and coordinators of programs receiving first-year funding through any SCAO problem-solving court grant program. This training will be held virtually via Zoom.
