District court launches new e-filing system

The Oakland County 52nd District Court is launching its new e-filing system through MiFile for all civil cases. Civil files will largely become paperless, and all filings will be electronically submitted to the court and accessed on-line.

The 52nd District Court is one of the largest district courts in the State of Michigan, second only to the 36th District Court in Detroit. It serves approximately 75% of Oakland County, with courthouses located in Novi, Clarkston, Rochester, and Troy.

Oakland County 52nd District Court Chief Judge Joseph Fabrizio says that, “e-filing will increase efficiency and enhance access to the court.

“Over the last few years, we have implemented dramatic changes to our court operations. The judicial system is heavily rooted in hundreds of years of tradition and is often slow to adapt to changes in society. However, in addition to the new e-filing system, we now offer virtual hearing options using Zoom technology for many types of cases, particularly traffic and civil hearings.

Fabrizio said all 52nd District Court courtrooms have been converted to video recording technology.

“We offer text and email reminders to court users of upcoming court dates and probation appointments,” Fabrizio added. “We still have a lot of work to do, but I am proud to announce that the court is embracing technology and has implemented significant changes in our operations.”
