Bling Thing 2024 will take place on February 9 and 10 at the Barclay Place Event Center, 2330 Barclay St., Muskegon. This popular sale of fashion and fine jewelry and accessories is presented by the Friends of Hackley Public Library. All proceeds benefit library programs and activities throughout the year.

The event features an extensive selection of costume, vintage and fine jewelry. Estate sale jewelry expert Sherry Kelley, who assists with Bling Thing every year, says shoppers will find an especially large amount of sterling, 10- and 14-karat gold, a unique donation of beaded jewelry by a designer closing her business, and many other interesting pieces donated by community members. Purses, scarves, dressy clothing items and much more are also part of the sale.

The event is open to the public on both days. The very popular Friday evening sale runs from 5 to 8 p.m., with a $15 donation at the door and shoppers can enjoy complimentary wine and chocolates.

Saturday’s sale is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with free entry. The doors close briefly at noon, and when they re-open, merchandise is half off (with the exception of some fine jewelry.) There are great bargains throughout the event.

There will be a raffle for a beautiful bookshelf-themed quilt, donated to Friends by local quilters. The quilt will be displayed at Hackley Public Library prior to the event. Raffle tickets will be on sale soon and throughout the event, with the raffle taking place on Saturday afternoon, February 10. Watch Friends Facebook page, Friends of Hackley Public Library, for details soon.

Nancy Dreliozis, who attends with her “gal pals” every year, says, “February is a nice time to get out and socialize. The event is so well organized, the items are so well-priced, and who doesn’t love wine and chocolate?”

Friends of Hackley Public Library has made an investment of over $1 million toward Library programs and facilities since its inception in 1973. Friends provides over $20,000 annually for free programs for children and adults, and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to enhance and restore areas throughout the historic Library building and Torrent House. Friends also presents the annual Charles Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities, a free community event held each spring.
