The law community was reminded of the powerful impact of Dr. King’s words as they listened to his famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” delivered on August 28, 1963, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Founder of MSU Law’s Diversity and Equity Services office, Assistant Dean Ferguson hosts this celebration each year to “Continue the legacy of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A legacy of community, unity and peace.”
MSU Law Interim Dean Michael Sant’Ambrosio shared his reflections about Dr. King and how he continues to inspire and influence.
“Dr. King’s legacy encourages us to confront injustice where we find it and to advocate for unheard and marginalized voices,” said Sant’Ambrosio. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion at MSU Law is a promise, it’s not just a slogan.”
Following the brief remarks, the students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to refresh themselves on their favorite Dr. King quotes and share their impressions of each. The quotes are featured on the Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington, D.C., and on the U.S. National Park Service website.
