MAJ to conduct ‘Seminar in the Snow’ Feb. 29


The Michigan Association for Justice will conduct its “Seminar in the Snow” Thursday through Saturday, February 29-March 2, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City.

MAJ Past President Ron Weiner, of Lipton Law, and Tim Smith, of Smith & Johnson, are the co-moderators for this year’s seminar.

The festivities will kick off Thursday afternoon with a wine bus tour (separated ticketed event), and a welcome reception Thursday evening.

Speakers will include: MAJ President Jennifer McManus, Fagan McManus PC, Royal Oak; Joshua Terebelo, Michigan Auto Law, Farmington Hills; Dina Zalewski, Sommers Schwartz PC, Southfield; Omar Sheriff, The Seva Law Firm, Troy; Paul Doherty, Ven Johnson Law PLC, Detroit; Lauren Kissel, Sinas Dramis Law Firm, Lansing; and Robert Whims, Whims Legal Group PLC, Traverse City.

Event rates are $420 for MAJ members, $350 for MAJ sustaining members, $285 for MAJ members practicing 4 years or less, $285 for MAJ paralegal/law clerk members, and $615 for non-members.  Hotel accommodations must be booked separately.

Speakers to discuss ‘Maintaining Diversity in the Pipeline to and from Law School’


The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present “Maintaining Diversity in the Pipeline to and from Law School” on Wednesday, February 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 S. Telegraph Road, Ste. 100, in Bloomfield Hills.

The program will feature a panel discussion on recruiting and maintaining diversity in the law schools and helping assist diverse post graduates in the workforce through internships and more.

Speaking at the program will be University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Dean Jelani Jefferson Exum; Audra A. Foster, director of Pipeline Programming, Outreach, and Education at Michigan State University College of Law; and moderator Adrienne Young of the State Appellate Defender Office.

Cost to pre-register for the program is $25 for OCBA members; $15 for OCBA DEI Committee members; $15 for OCBA new lawyers, and paralegals, students, and administrative assistants; and $35 for non-members.
