Business Law Symposium set for Feb. 8th in Detroit


The Sixth Annual State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section Symposium will take place this Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5:15-9 p.m. at the Guardian Building in downtown Detroit.

The title of this year’s program will be “Experts and Trial Practice,” according to Troy attorney Mark Rossman, who has coordinated the event since its inception. Rossman, of Rossman, P.C., will present the “Opening Statement” at 5:15, which will be followed at 5:30 by a panel discussion on Young Lawyer Perspectives on Litigation and Trial Practice. Among the panelists will be Mahde Abdallah of BSP Law; Jacob Campbell of The Miller Law Firm; Isra Khuja of Rossman, P.C.; and Paige Szymanski of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. The discussion will be moderated by Daniel Ravitz of The Miller Law Firm.

From 6:25-7:15 p.m., a panel discussion on Expert Perspectives on Litigation and Trial Practice will take place. The panelists will include Daniel Agaus of B/Riley Advisory Services; Van Conway of Van Conway and Partners; Tom Frazee of FVF Consulting; James Harrington of MDD Forensic Accountants; and Jesse Ultz of Stout.

The discussion will be moderated by Mark Rossman.

At 7:20, a 50-minute panel discussion on Judicial Perspectives on Litigation and Trial Practice is scheduled. Featured panelists are retired U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts, and U.S. Magistrate Judges Kimberly Altman and Anthony Patti, all of the Eastern District of Michigan. Sara MacWilliams, of Doerr MacWilliams Howard, will serve as moderator.

From 8:15-9 p.m., a presentation on “The Art of the Opening Statement” will be offered by E. Powell Miller of The Miller Law Firm in Rochester.

Law school hosts Henning Memorial Lecture March 4



Wayne State University Law School will present the annual Peter J. Henning Memorial Lecture on Monday, March 4, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Partrich Auditorium, 471 W. Palmer Ave. in Detroit.

This memorial lecture honors Professor Henning (1956-2022), a passionate and beloved teacher, a brilliant legal scholar, an inspirational mentor, and a colleague and friend.

Mary Jo White, former United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, will deliver this year’s lecture.

The lecture will be followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.
