Museum to debut Judge Keith exhibit


The Charles H. Wright Museum is proud to debut a new exhibit that will honor the life and legacy of federal Judge Damon J. Keith as part of the museum’s “And Still We rise” gallery.

The exhibition is a timeline journey of Keith’s life through an interactive experience that features innovative technology. Through a curatorial partnership with The Wright Museums staff and other key stakeholders, the exhibit highlights Keith’s childhood, his family, military service, education, legal practice, and service as a federal judge.

A special opening reception will take place Tuesday, February 27, beginning at noon. Valet and refreshments will be provided. The event is open to the public but registration is required. MDTC hosts Legal Excellence Awards


The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel will present its Legal Excellence Awards 2024 on Thursday, March 21, beginning at  6 p.m. at The Gem Theatre, 333 Madison Avenue in Detroit.

The night will include presentations of the following awards:

• Young Lawyers Golden Gavel Award—Genavieve Lee of Novara, Tesija, McDonald, & Baas PLLC

• Excellence In Defense Award—José Brown of Cline, Cline, & Griffin PC; and Dora Brantley of Foster, Swift, Collins, & Smith PC

• Judicial Award—Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Julie Gatti

• John P. Jacobs Appellate Advocacy Award—Tim Diemer of Jacobs and Diemer PC

The banquet includes a strolling dinner.  The emcee for the evening will be Charlie Langton of Fox 2 Detroit.

‘Erosion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ discussed



In honor of Black History Month, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, Wolverine Bar Association, and Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will present an online fireside chat about preserving a seat for diversity.  “The Erosion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” will take place on Thursday, February 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Speaking at the chat will be State Bar of Michigan Past President James Heath, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Dean Jelani Jefferson Exum, former DEI Commission co-chair Cynthia Stephens, Detroit Mercy Law 2L Stephanie Thomas, and moderator Zenell Brown.
