Magistrate Tamara Garwood has declared her candidacy for Judge of the 15th District Court, following the retirement announcement of Chief Judge Joseph Burke. Her campaign focuses on enhancing access to justice, improving court efficiency, innovating court operations and expanding support for mental health services and housing initiatives.
Garwood's qualifications include eight years as Magistrate of the 15th District Court and 25 years as an attorney, during which she has handled all types of civil and criminal cases.
She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Washtenaw County Bar Association, with admissions to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States and the Federal District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Additionally, she is a trained mediator, arbitrator, and Guardian Ad Litem, advocating for the rights of vulnerable individuals.
Garwood serves as vice president of the Michigan Association of District Court Magistrates, instructs at the Michigan Judicial Institute, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Washtenaw County EMU Legal Resource Center.
An Ann Arbor resident for over 25 years, Garwood is a University of Michigan alumna.
