‘Unified Patent Court of the EU’ explored by MIPLA


The Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) will host a virtual event on Tuesday, March 12, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. via Zoom.  Speaker Max von Vopelius of Eisenführ Speiser will discuss “Unified Patent Court of the European Union.”

Max von Vopelius has special experience in drafting, prosecuting and enforcing German, European and international technical property rights, as well as in opposition proceedings against German and European patents.

He focuses particularly on medium-sized companies driven by innovation, in close collaboration with which he develops holistic strategies for patents and intellectual property that are attuned not only to the company concerned, but also to its respective business model. Another key focus is providing consultancy to start-ups and investors on all issues relating to product protection during the start-up phase.

‘Child Memory Issues’ examined in OCBA webinar


The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Brown Bag: Child Memory Issues” webinar for juvenile law appointed counsel on Thursday, April 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

The webinar will feature special guest Dr. Daniel Swerdlow-Freed from Swerdlow-Freed Psychology. Attendees will learn about child memory issues children suffer from during proceedings. Questions will be welcome during the program.

Credit has been approved with the OCBA for 1.5 Juvenile credits.

Cost for the webinar is $12 for OCBA members pre-registration and $25 for non-members pre-registration.

MDTC hosts Legal Excellence Awards


The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel will present its Legal Excellence Awards 2024 on Thursday, March 21, beginning at  6 p.m. at The Gem Theatre, 333 Madison Avenue in Detroit.

The banquet includes a strolling dinner.  The emcee for the evening will be Charlie Langton of Fox 2 Detroit.
