Federal judge finds Flint in contempt
over lead water pipe crisis

FLINT (AP) — A federal judge has found the city of Flint in contempt for failing to comply with a court order that spelled out the steps it needed to take to finish replacing old lead pipes after Flint’s lead-contaminated water scandal.

U.S. District Judge David Lawson wrote in Tuesday’s decision that he had found Flint in civil contempt because it had failed to meet deadlines for pipe-removal that he outlined in his February 2023 order.

The city originally had promised to replace the pipes by early 2020. Lawson’s ruling comes after he heard a motion seeking a finding of contempt by groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Lawson’s ruling came nearly a decade after the water crisis began and nearly seven years after a settlement was reached in a citizen lawsuit against the city and Michigan state officials.

Man accidentally shot in face
with ghost gun files lawsuit

ANN?ARBOR?(AP) — A 19-year-old man who lost his right eye after being shot with a firearm made from a ghost gun kit is suing his former best friend who accidently shot him and the Pennsylvania company that sold his friend the kit

The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in Washtenaw County Circuit Court, alleges that JSD Supply sold two ghost gun kits in April 2021 to Guy Boyd’s then-17-year-old friend without verifying the teen’s age or whether he could legally possess a pistol.

Boyd was shot in the face less than two months later.

The lawsuit accuses JSD Supply and Boyd’s former friend of negligence.

Ghost guns are privately made firearms that don't have serial numbers.
