One of two Macomb County sheriff’s deputies charged in alleged altercation during juvenile arrest pleads no contest

A Macomb County deputy sheriff pled no contest Wednesday in connection with an altercation that occurred from taking a juvenile into custody.

Last August 30, Macomb County deputies Derek Reed and Alan Weir were assigned to bring a juvenile to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center for a probation violation.

It is alleged that while taking the juvenile into custody, Reed slapped the juvenile.

Weir was charged with willful neglect of duty while Reed was charged with child abuse in the fourth degree.

Weir pled no contest in front of Visiting Judge Richard McLean in New Baltimore District Court. McLean accepted his no contest plea and sentenced Weir to one year probation and a $750 fine.

The sheriff’s department said Weir was demoted as a result of his actions.
