Nominating petitions available for
2024 State Bar election


Nominating petitions for the upcoming State Bar of Michigan election are available at www.michbar.org/programs/form.

The June election will include:

• A statewide election for a judicial member of the Judicial Tenure Commission

• Elections for 89 members of the Representative Assembly in 44 judicial circuits

• Elections for seven members of the Board of Commissioners in five commissioner districts

• Elections for 11 members of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council in three districts

Candidates must submit their nominating petitions between April 1 and April 30, by emailing them to Carrie Sharlow at?csharlow@michbar.org.

All active members of the State Bar will be emailed ballots to vote in the election by June 1 and must cast their ballots online by 11:59 p.m. June 15.

‘ABCs of Abatement’ presented online


The Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) and Friend of the Court Bureau (FOCB) will present the “The ABCs of Abatement” online Thursday, March 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. via Zoom.

Michigan law changed several years ago to allow for administrative abatement of support when the payer is incarcerated. Many things have changed since then with processes, system programming and reports.

This session will focus on, among other things,: requirements to qualify for administrative abatement, what actions are required upon the payer’s release and case considerations impacting how to work with parents in these situations.

Speakers will be management analysts Paul Gehm and Amy Lindholm, Friend of the Court Bureau, State Court Administrative Office, Michigan Supreme Court.

Associations co-host bankruptcy program


The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, along with the Wolverine Bar Association will present an online bankruptcy program.

“A Bankruptcy Practice: Oh, the Places You Can Go” will take place Wednesday, April 10, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to the panelists discuss how they have used their bankruptcy background in interesting and unexpected ways.
