Bransdorfer and Canute named to Crain’s Notable Women in the Law


Mika Meyers’ attorneys and members, Elizabeth K. Bransdorfer and Nikole L. Canute were recently selected for inclusion in Crain’s Notable Women in the Law for their impact in the types of cases and clients assisted, serving as role models and mentors to attorneys and assuming leadership roles in professional organizations and community service initiatives.

Canute practices in the areas of labor and employment law, employment litigation, and energy and natural resources and also specializes in energy matters, including condemnation.

Bransdorfer is a family law attorney; her practice includes divorce, custody, parenting time, support, and property division. She often represents clients with complex marital estates that may include business ownership interests. She assists clients both in traditional litigation and alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and Collaborative Practice.

James Liggins  Jr. reappointed to Board of Ethics


James Liggins Jr. of Kalamazoo has been appointed to the State Board of Ethics. The appointment was announced March 21 by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Liggins is senior counsel at Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, and has been with the firm since 2018.

Liggins also serves on the executive committee and as vice chair of the board of directors for Bronson Healthcare Group, as a member of the American Hospital Association Committee on Governance, as past chair on the board of directors for the United Way of Southcentral Michigan, and as co-chair of the State Bar of Michigan Judicial Qualifications Committee.

Liggins, who earned his JD from Michigan State University College of Law, also serves  on the board of directors for the Greanleaf Trust and the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees.  

Liggins was reappointed to the State Board of Ethics for a term commencing March 21, 2024, and expiring February 7, 2028.
