LANSING - Experienced trial and appellate lawyer and University of Michigan law professor, Kimberly Ann Thomas announced her campaign for the Michigan Supreme Court. The seat is currently held by Justice David Viviano, who announced he will not be seeking re-election to the bench.
Thomas is a clinical professor and director of the Juvenile Justice Clinic at Michigan Law School. She worked to improve the court system through service on the Michigan Task Force on Juvenile Justice Reform.
She has been recognized with the U.S. Fulbright award and has been a legal education expert for the Rule of Law Initiative of the American Bar Association.
Thomas is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Maryland at College Park.
After law school, she clerked for the Hon. R. Guy Cole of the U.S. Court of Appeals Sixth
Circuit and began her career as a public defense attorney.
She is the mother of two Ann Arbor Public School students, a middle schooler and a high schooler, and is a volunteer school Science Olympiad coach.
Thomas is seeking the nomination of the Michigan Democratic Party.
The General Election will be held on November 5.
