Charges amended on two Warren police officers

The Macomb County prosecutor’s office amended charges against two Warren Police Officers in connection with a traffic stop.

Last July, Officers Dammeon Player and Carlos Taylor conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a semi-trailer truck outside of the officers’ jurisdiction, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Player allegedly used unnecessary force during the arrest of the victim.

Player was originally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and charged as well with willful failure to uphold the law.

After further review of the evidence, the charges were amended late last week.  The charge of a public official failing to uphold the law was dismissed and a charge of misconduct in office was added along with the original assault accusation.
Player’s next court date is Wednesday, May 8 in Center Line District Court.

Taylor was originally charged with public official willful failure to uphold the law as well as assault and battery.

After further review of the evidence the prosecutors’ office added the additional charge of misconduct in office along with the two original charges.

Taylor’s next court date is Wednesday, June 5 in Center Line District Court.

"No badge grants immunity from accountability, and those who abuse their authority will face the full weight of justice,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
