Wayne Law and ABF to host free conference on access to civil justice May 8

The American Bar Foundation (ABF) and Wayne State University Law School will host a free conference that will  critically examine how empirical research might provide answers to the access to civil justice crisis at an upcoming conference.

“Emerging Insights from Access to Justice Research: Translating Ideas into Action” will be held at Wayne State University’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center, as well as virtually from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. The conference center is located at 495 Gilmour Mall in Detroit. A reception will follow.

The United States faces an access to civil justice crisis of extraordinary scale. According to the latest Legal Services Corporation Justice Gap Report, 92% of low-income Americans with civil needs cannot find adequate help to resolve their civil legal problems. Please join the American Bar Foundation’s Access to Justice Research Initiative and Wayne State University Law School in a conference offering a unique opportunity for access to justice researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to critically examine how empirical research and evidence might provide answers.

Event schedule includes speakers from around the nation as well as Wayne State University Law School. Sessions include topics on Research-Practice Partnerships, Exploring the Nexus of Civil and Criminal Law, Data for Achieving Better Justice Outcomes, and Housing and Environmental Justice.
The conference includes lunch and a reception. Although there is no cost to attend this conference, registration is required.

For the schedule, list of speakers and to register for either the virtually or in-person options, visit the ABF website.
