It is alleged that on Saturday, May 4, Savion Jones was driving a Dodge RAM on 11 Mile Road near Hoover Road when he ran over 65-year-old James Suveges who was walking in the crosswalk.
Jones stopped near the scene briefly but as other vehicles stopped to attend to Suveges, Jones fled.
Savion Jones was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury or death.
He is also being charged as a habitual second offender.
Jones was arraigned last Thursday in 37th Warren District Court by District Court Judge Michael Chupa where bond was set at $200,000 cash/surety.
A probable cause hearing is set for May 23.
"A hit-and-run isn't merely an accident; it's a deliberate act of callousness. When a driver chooses to flee instead of rendering aid, they are compounding their guilt with cowardice, leaving behind shattered lives,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
