Area attorney named to district court bench

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has appointed attorney Laura Polizzi to the Oakland County 52-3 District Court.

“I am truly honored to be appointed to the 52-3 District Court and thankful to the governor for this opportunity to serve the community that my family calls home,” said Polizzi. “I am humbled by this opportunity, and I will work to ensure that all individuals are treated fairly, with respect, and equal access to justice.”

Polizzi is a partner at Polizzi & Medley Law in Mount Clemens and litigates domestic, business, real estate, juvenile and criminal matters.

She has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Michigan Rising Star from 2018 through 2024.

Polizzi serves on the board of directors for the Macomb County Bar Association and Macomb County Bar Foundation. Previously, she served as president of the Women’s Lawyers Association of Michigan, Macomb Region.

Polizzi is also a representative in the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly and is a member of the State Bar Character and Fitness Committee.

She is a member of the Human Resources Committee for Turning Point, an organization that provides shelter and assistance for victims of domestic violence. Polizzi also has served as a faculty member for the Society of Active Retirees (SOAR) at Macomb Community College.

Polizzi is bilingual and represents many Spanish speaking clients.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Oakland University and her law degree from Cooley Law School.

While in law school, Polizzi served as a clerk for Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark Switalski.

Following her clerkship, she worked for the Oakland County-based Family Law Assistance Project, which provided family law service to indigent persons and persons in need of legal assistance.

This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Julie A. Nicholson.

Polizzi’s term will commence on May 26 and expire at noon on Jan. 1, 2025.
