Webcast looks at ‘Counseling Cannabis: Legal Essentials and Opportunities’

American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education will present the webcast “Counseling Cannabis: Legal Essentials and Opportunities” on Wednesday, June 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The cannabis industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry despite an enduring federal prohibition on marijuana. As of February 2024, 24 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for recreational use, and another 14 states allow medicinal use.

This growth has brought about increased demand from businesses for cannabis licensing within legalized jurisdictions and a growing need by the industry for legal counsel in such areas as licensing, corporate formation, tax planning, banking, real estate, creditor’s rights, and more.

Whether firms already have clients involved in or exploring the cannabis industry, or advising a property owner considering leasing to a cannabis business, this program will update attorneys on critical legal and regulatory issues they and their clients need to consider. The faculty will inform and provide guidance for expanding a practice as they address the following issues and more:

• Legal overview
• Professional responsibility concerns
• Banking and tax issues
• Licensing issues
• Business and financing considerations
• Real estate considerations
• Evolving considerations and hot topics including deregulation efforts, SAFE banking, and more

Questions will be submitted live to the faculty and all registrants will receive downloadable course materials to accompany the program.

Cost for the webcast is $249. To register, visit www.ali-cle.org.
