Child abuse cases discussed at webinar

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Child Abuse Prosecution Resources program will present a webinar on “Abusive Head Trauma in the Courtroom” Monday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to  noon via Zoom.

In this training, Dr. Sarah Brown, child abuse pediatrician from Bronson Children’s Hospital, will address issues faced by child abuse and neglect professionals in cases of serious physical abuse/abusive head trauma cases and will help prosecutors be prepared to address the unique issues these cases face.

• Head Trauma in Young Children:  The Medical Basics
• Common Abusive and Accidental Injury Mechanisms & Timing
• Abusive Head Trauma:  True Medical Mimics vs. the Internet

State Bar to host virtual
Lawyer Trust Account program

Michigan attorneys will be able to learn how to ethically manage lawyer trust accounts during the State Bar of Michigan’s half-day virtual Lawyer Trust Account Webinar on Tuesday, June 25.

The cost is $25 and the session will cover management principles, recordkeeping resources for client and third-party funds, and practical information regarding MRPC 1.15 and 1.15A.

Scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, the webinar is open to members of the Bar and their legal staff.

MJI seminar looks at community-based
programs, services

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare Juvenile Services will present the webinar “Community-Based Programs and Services, Part II: Where Do We Start?” on Friday, June 28, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

As part of the juvenile justice reform efforts in Michigan, community-based services and programs are encouraged and incentivized through the legislative changes to the Child Care Fund (CCF).

Effective Oct. 1, CCF eligibility will also include programs and services at the point in which a complaint, referral, or petition is received. CCF reimbursement to counties increases to 75 percent for in-home care expenses including community-based supervision, services, and related practices.
