Attorneys encouraged to apply for MAACS positions

The Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System (MAACS) is accepting applications from criminal defense attorneys with all levels of criminal appellate experience.

MAACS roster attorneys receive reasonable and reliable attorney fees, investigation and litigation support services, legal research assistance, and a variety of resources and training.

MAACS attorneys represent indigent individuals appealing criminal convictions and delinquency adjudications from all 83 counties in the state. Attorneys may represent individuals in appeals from pleas, resentencings, and trials, as well as in post-conviction and post-adjudication proceedings.

Representation will take place in circuit courts, Michigan Court of Appeals, and Michigan Supreme Court.

Roster attorneys are offered complimentary training opportunities which include an annual virtual Appellate Defender Fall Training, an annual in-person three-day Appellate Writing Workshop and biweekly case rounds.

New roster attorneys must complete an orientation program before accepting assignments, and all roster attorneys must complete 12 hours annually of relevant CLE training.

For additional information and access to the application, visit www.sado.org/maacs.  Applications are due by September 13.
