New to the board this year are:
• Douglas Shapiro was elected to serve District G, representing Jackson and Washtenaw counties. Shapiro recently retired from the Court of Appeals where he served as a judge from 2009-2024. He began his career working as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice James Brickley after which he joined the State Appellate Defender Office representing indigent criminal defendants
• Ashley Lowe was elected to serve District I, representing Oakland County. Lowe is thechief executive officer of Lakeshore Legl Aid, a non-profit law firm providing free legal services in the Detroit metro region. Prior to joining Lakeshore, Lowe was the associate director of clinical education at Wayne State University Law School and a professor at Cooley Law School, where she founded and directed the Family Law Assistance Project.
• Elizabeth Luckenbach was elected to serve District I, representing Oakland County. Luckenbach is a member of Dickinson Wright PLLC, serving as division director for the firm’s Regulatory/Administration department. She specializes in probate and fiduciary litigation, trust and estate administration, estate planning, and special needs planning.
• Danielle Walton was elected to serve District I, representing Oakland County. Walton previously was appinted by the Michigan Supreme Court to the Board of Commissioners. She has served on the State Bar of Michigan Public Policy Committee and Criminal Jurisprudence and Practice committees. She works at the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office concentrating in appellate practice. 2024 marks her thirtieth year as a prosecutor.
The three attorneys returning to the BOC after re-election are:
• Sherriee L. Detzler, re-elected to serve District D, representing Macomb and St. Clair counties.
• Judge Kristen D. Simmons, re-elected to serve District E, representing Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Shiawassee counties.
• Aaron V. Burrell, re-elected to serve District H, representing Wayne, Monroe, and Lenawee counties.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Brian R. Sullivan won a contested election for re-election to a three-year term on the Judicial Tenure Commission that will begin Jan. 1, 2025.
